Help save 15 apartment buildings near Shaker Square from the impact of foreclosure.

Community action matters now.

The City of Cleveland and Shaker Square neighbors are working to stop the scheduled auction of 15 distressed apartment buildings (the “Steiner Portfolio”) and pursue a local, community-based solution for the properties.

An auction could transfer the properties to speculative investors. Ohio Senator Jon Husted can help facilitate discussions with the lender Fannie Mae to support a community-based solution.

By agreeing to this approach Fannie Mae has the opportunity to demonstrate responsible stewardship—resolving a distressed portfolio in a way that strengthens both the asset and the community it anchors—and becomes a valued partner in protecting tenants, stabilizing the neighborhood, and preserving long-term value.

Please take action: Call Senator Jon Husted

Or email https://www.husted.senate.gov/contact-jon/

What to say:

“I’m calling to ask Senator Husted to support Cleveland’s efforts to stop the auction of 15 apartment buildings near Shaker Square.

Please urge Fannie Mae to work in partnership with the City of Cleveland on a direct, community-based solution instead of an auction.”

Every call helps strengthen Cleveland’s case for keeping these homes in local hands.

Thank you for your support.

“The fate of this portfolio will deeply influence the future of the neighborhood and we are determined to protect the interests of our residents by ensuring that these buildings are brought back into full code compliance.”

—Tyler Sinclair, Office Of The Mayor of Cleveland

“The vitality of this neighborhood is critical to the City of Cleveland.”
